MATTIE BEATRICE EDWARDS

Mother Mattie Beatrice Edwards, 78, 1403 Laurel St., Goldsboro, N.C., departed her earthly life Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C.
Mattie was born in Lenoir County Feb. 8, 1937, to the late Ms. Mardecia Edwards and Mr. George Joyner.
She received her education at Akins High School. After high school, Mattie applied for, and she was accepted at, East Carolina University, where she earned her degree in early childhood education.
Mother Mattie was preceded in death by her two sisters, Gwendoyln Grady and Deborah Hutchins, and her three brothers, Robert Hutchins, George Joyner Jr. and Edward Joyner.
Funeral will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Apostle D.L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C. Pastor Louis S. Leigh Jr. will officiate.
Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery South, 2925 U.S. 117 South, Dudley, N.C.
Also, a public viewing will be held Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, from 2 to 6 p.m. in Apostle D.L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m.
Mother Edwards leaves to cherish her great memories to her loving and devoted daughters, Joan E. Edwards and Lori D. Edwards; her three sons, Anthony T. Edwards, Lorne D. Edwards and wife, Yvonne, and Anthony L. Edwards, all of Goldsboro, N.C.; her brother, Hernadez H. Hutchins of Kinston, N.C.; her aunt, Lee Hester Edwards; a very special cousin, Loretta Edwards of Goldsboro, N.C.; her grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family members and friends will assemble one hour prior Tuesday at 9:50 a.m. at the residence of Ms. Lori Edwards, 1405 Laurel St., Goldsboro, in preparation for the funeral procession.
Flowers may be sent to McIntyre Funeral Home beginning Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
