Mrs. Bettie Scott Kearney, 85, Saulston community, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015.
Bettie was born June 14, 1930, in Wayne County, N.C., to the late Atlas and Lillian Yelverton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brodie Kearney, and son, Charles Vernon Kearney.
Bettie was a member of United in Christ Church of Goldsboro. She loved her church and her family.
Bettie was an avid fan of bluegrass gospel music, and she loved to sing with her family.
A graveside service will be Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bill Rose officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service at graveside.
Bettie is survived by her daughter, Hope Kearney; two sons, Russell Kearney and wife, Linda, of Goldsboro and Lee Kearney and wife, Sue, of Goldsboro; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Cramier Yelverton.
We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Sutton's Retirement Home for the love and care it provided for our mama while a resident. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.
Also a thank you to the caregivers at Kitty Askins Hospice Center who cared for mother in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
