JOHN ED SMITH

John Ed Smith, 71, Havelock, passed away Friday at Carolina East Hospital.
He was the son of the late Gatsy N. Smith, and was the husband of Frances Kay Smith.
He served in the United States Marine Corps, and retired from Celotex and Berkeley Mall.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with pastor Jason Smith officiating. Entombment services will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times, at the home of his son, John Smith Jr. in Goldsboro.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Devonna Smith and Kathleen Luzadder and husband, Mike, all of Havelock; a son, John Smith Jr. of Goldsboro; a brother, Douglas Smith and wife, Catherine, of Goldsboro; and five grandchildren, Mary and Joey Luzadder and Sara, Grace and Aidan Smith.
