PERCY FRANKLIN EVANS

May 3, 1930-April 28, 2015

Percy Franklin Evans, 84, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Percy was born in Johnston County May 3, 1930, to the late Charlie Leon Evans and Lanie Creech Evans.

He was married to the late Gretchen Askew Evans, who retired as a school teacher in Clark County, Nev.

Percy was a graduate of Rosewood High School.

He served his country in the United States Navy as a gunner on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain during the Korean War, then he joined the United States Air Force, wherein he served as an air traffic controller, and was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War.

He retired from the United States Air Force while at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nev.

Percy served for a short period with the CIA.

He joined and served in the United States Civil Service at Area 51 in Nevada, performing both security and refueling duties.

A service celebrating Percy's life will be held in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home Sunday, May 3, 2015, at 4 p.m. with military honors following the service.

The family will greet friends at Seymour Funeral Home immediately following the service.

Percy is survived by his son, Joey "J.D." Evans and wife, Michele; grandchildren, Ashley Bandy and husband, Marcus, Ryan Evans, Joseph Evans and Jack Evans; sister, Joyce Sauls and husband, Donald, and Janice Curfman and husband, James "Woody"; brothers, Herbert Y. Evans, James L. Evans and wife, Irene, and Bill N. Evans and wife, Janice; and sister-in-law, Erlene J. Evans.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wilba and Hilda Askew Witherington, George Albert and Charolette Askew and Jean S. Askew.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton W. Evans; sister, Hazel Crawford; and sister-in-law and brothers-in- law, Edna and Leslie "Red" Thompson and Melvin Askew.
