Retired Staff Sgt. Rodney Edward Daye, 57, went to be with the Lord and savior, Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at University Medical Hospital in Fountain, Colo.

Rodney was born Nov. 19, 1957, in New York City to the late Theodore Edward Daye and Ethelene Watson Daye.

Rodney graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1976, and he received a Christian baptism the 7th day of November at Bethany Baptist Church in Jamaica, N.Y.

Staff Sgt. Rodney Day served 20 years in the United States Army, and after an honorable discharge, he resided in Fountain, Colo.

He is survived by his wife, Simone Denise Daye of the home; his mother, elder Ethelene Watson Daye of Goldsboro; his half-sister, Barbara Jean Statan of Bronx, N.Y.; half-brother, Ted Daye (Barbara) of Aiken, S.C.; three aunts, Elizabeth Portier, Gertrude Daye and MaeBelle Watson all of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at noon at Tabernacle of Prayer, 1005 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C. The Rev. Dr. Douglas Sutton will officiate.

A viewing, with the family present, will be held at the church an hour prior to the service.

Interment with military honors will take place in the Veterans Cemetery Friday, April 24, 2015, in Raleigh, N.C.

The family will receive friends at 700 S. Audubon Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., where it will assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
