ZODIE H. WHITMAN

Zodie Irene Herring Whitman, 69, of La Grange, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015.
Zodie was born May 5, 1945, in Lenoir County to the late Herman Harrison Herring and Irene Skinner Herring.
Her life revolved around serving her Lord and taking care of her family.
Zodie was a lifelong member of White Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
She served her church as a Sunday school teacher, was an active part of the Ladies Auxiliary and led the youth group in earlier years.
Her true calling was serving as wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
She took great pride in caring for her mother, and nothing pleased her more than taking care of her grandchildren.
The grandchildren will remember her as their "Number 1 Supporter."
She loved cooking for her family and tending to her yard and flowers.
She enjoyed trips to the beach and recently enjoyed learning to make jewelry.
A service to celebrate and honor Zodie's life will be held Friday, March 20, 2015, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with pastor Bob Smith officiating.
Interment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.
Zodie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Durwood L. Whitman; three children, Randy Lee Whitman and wife, Susan Renee Whitman, Zerrina Leigh Whitman and David Hetzel, and Allen Ray Whitman and wife, Ashley Nicole Whitman; five beloved grandchildren, Brandi Renee Murphy and husband, Dusty, Hunter Lee Whitman, David Lee Hetzel Jr., Zannah Irene Hetzel and Zoey Nicole Whitman.
Zodie was excited about the upcoming birth of her first great-grandchild, Korey River Murphy.
The family will receive friends Friday following the service and at other times they will be at the Whitman home.
