WILLIAM RAYMOND GRANT
March 8, 1932-March 11, 2015
William Raymond Grant, 83, Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Grant was born in Wayne County March 8, 1932, to the late Raymond E. and Mildred Lois Whitley Grant.
He owned and operated Statewide Trucking Co. in Goldsboro until his retirement in 1997.
He was also an active member of New Hope Friends Meeting until his health deteriorated over the past three years.
Mr. Grant, "Bill," was an avid golfer, and looked forward to the time spent with his golfing buddies at Sleepy Creek Golf Course.
A service celebrating Mr. Grant's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at New Hope Friends Church, with Bill Garner officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Friends Cemetery.
Mr. Grant is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Moore Grant; daughter, Robin Carmack and husband, Keith, of Goldsboro; sons, Tim Grant and wife, Katherine, of Greensboro and Steven Grant of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Cary Ann Kornegay and husband, Kevin, Katlyn Grant and Caleb Grant; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Parker and Annabel Kornegay.
He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Kearney of Goldsboro, and his brother, J.W. Grant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Durrell Grant.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 12, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the family life center of New Hope Friends and other times at his residence.
The family would like to thank Community Hospice, with a special mention to Teresa Short, for the incredible support and compassion shown during the final stages of his life.
Also, the family is truly grateful for a special neighbor/friend, Ricky Wheeler, who made himself available to help in any way needed.
