REV. GERALD RUDOLPH MASSEY

The Rev, Gerald Rudolph Massey, 88, Eureka, went to his heavenly home Wednesday at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh, N.C., with his family by his side.
Born in Turkey, N.C., he was preceded in death by the love of his life of 61 years, Dorothy Jackson Massey; his parents, Nancy Elizabeth Weaver Massey and George Washington Massey; a son, Gerald Massey Jr.; and a grandson, Hooks Lane.
As a young man, Rudolph proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
He operated a service station in Clinton for a number of years prior to receiving his call to enter the ministry.
He was truly a servant of the Lord. As a dedicated and much-loved pastor, he was always there for people "down in the dumps." in nursing homes or just to talk and pray.
His beloved wife, Dorothy, was always at his side, and together they were a tremendous voice for the Lord wherever they served.
He served the following United Methodist Churches: Saint Joseph of Pikeville, Eureka-Yelverton of Eureka and Faro, Saint Paul's of Carolina Beach and Mount Carmel of Pikeville.
Rudolph loved music and singing hymns. He was known to burst forth into song to bring out a special meaning to his sermons. He was a shining light for all who knew him.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Lions Club and Rotary Club.
A service celebrating Rudolph's life will held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michele Clark and the Rev. Glenn Pate officiating. Interment will follow in Eureka Cemetery.
Visitation and a time of sharing with the family will be at Eureka United Methodist Church Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Louis and Lu Massey
Survivors include his son, Louis Massey (Lu) of Eureka; daughter, Delores Cobb (Chuck) of Cary; daughter-in-law, Sharon Massey of Alpharetta Ga.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
