Thomas Richard "Tommy" Allen Jr., 62, resident of the village of Sleepy Creek, Dudley, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 23, 2015, at Life Care Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Services to remember and to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mount Olive. Officiating will be pastor Scott Hardy, Dr. Dennis Atwood and the Rev. Gloria Price.
Visitation will follow the service in the church's Christian Life Center.
Committal and interment will be Friday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange.
Friends and family are also being received at the residence at Sleepy Creek.
Tommy's growing up years were spent in Atlanta, Ga., and Jacksonville, N.C., graduating from Avondale High School in Atlanta in 1970, and then attending Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, N.C.
A certified public accountant, Tommy operated Thomas R. Allen Jr. P.A., and he worked hard to make his business a successful presence in downtown Mount Olive.
He served his community and fellow man not only through his professional career, but also by his being a member of Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, during which time he held various offices during the years, most notably as serving as treasurer and captain for lengthy tenures.
He was a member of Mount Olive Kiwanis Club, had been a member of the board of directors of Sleepy Creek Golf Club, was a former Mount Olive Jaycee and was a member of Mount Olive's First Baptist Church.
Tommy was a water sports enthusiast, and he enjoyed boating.
Son of the late Thomas R. and Mamie Franck Haywood Allen, Tommy is survived by his wife, Gloria Wilson Allen; two daughters, Skyler Haywood Allen Hardy and husband, Scott Sutton Hardy, of the Jason community of Snow Hill and Caitlin Aldridge Allen Foss and husband, Brandon George Foss, of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Mary Gray Hardy, Emma-Scott Haywood Hardy, Sutton Thomas Wilson Hardy and Allyn Kate Foss; a sister, Penny Sue Allen Brock of Durham; a sister-in-law, Irene Wilson of LaGrange; a brother-in-law, Joseph W. Wilson III and wife, Myrtle, of Kinston; special cousins, Dr. Virginia Martin of Mount Olive, Dr. Andy Haven of Greenville, Anne Daughtridge of Raleigh, Stephanie Berry of Greensboro and Shelley McDaniel of Georgia; several nieces and their families; and a large number of very close friends.
