GROVER FLOYD HOOD

Grover Floyd Hood, 81, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Floyd was born in Wayne County on Feb. 8, 1933, to the late Durwood Rose Hood and the late Eloise Wolfe Hood.
Floyd lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community.
He served his community in many ways, from volunteering on the Grantham Fire Department to serving at Falling Creek Baptist Church where he was a member.
After graduating from Grantham High School in 1953, he served his country proudly in the United States Army.
Floyd was retired from Borden Manufacturing after many years of service as a truck driver.
Floyd was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors on the water or in the woods.
He was a hunter of big and small game and loved walking in the woods and fields with family and friends.
He was also an avid baseball fan, enjoying not only watching the game, but playing it as well.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church with the the Rev. Billy Webb and the Rev. Aubrey Williamson officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Sunday and at other times at the home of his daughter Kim.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Molly Price Hood; daughters, Angela Hood of Grantham, Kim Kennedy and husband, Jeff, of Grantham; son, Jeffery Floyd Hood and wife, Jill, of Grantham; grandchildren, Ramey Barbour; Miranda Davis and husband, Brad; Layla Steele and husband, Charley; D.J. Hood; Mollianne Kennedy; and Claire Kennedy; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Lucas and Jacob Davis and Waylon and Tony Barbour.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Hood, and a sister, Helen Cox.
