HAZEL ODOM BROWN

Mrs. Hazel Odom Sloan Brown, resident of Mount Olive, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, Oct. 12, 2014, while at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday 20 days ago.
A lifelong resident of Wayne County and a longtime resident of the Grantham community, where she was a member of Falling Creek United Methodist Church, she was a retired homemaker, and had been a sales clerk at the former White's Department Store in Mount Olive.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Annie Frances and Bobby Ray Kornegay of Mount Olive; three grandchildren, Pam K. Best and husband, John, of Mount Olive, Pat K. St. Cyre and husband, Buz, of Mar-Mac and Danny Kornegay and wife, Jo, of Princeton; four great-grandchildren, Michael Best and wife, Jenna, Kelly Minnich and husband, Brian, Blake Kornegay and Jessica Willoughby; five great-great-grandchildren, Chesney Best, Tyler Best, Elijah Sittig, Sean Sasser and Bryson Minnich; and several nieces and nephews.
Her lone surviving sibling, brother James W. Odom of Fuquay-Varina, passed away 22 hours after she did.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Sloan and John Brown; a great-great-grandson, John Patrick Best; her parents, Walter R. and Fannie Huffman Odom; a sister, Tempie Odom; and two brothers, Norwood C. Odom and Ray Odom.
The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, with a graveside service to follow at 3 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jimmy Earp officiating.
Friends and family are also welcome to call at the home of Bobby Ray and Annie Frances Kornegay, 408 N. Breazeale Ave., Mount Olive, N.C.
