Nita Gardner Hedreen, 61, Emerald Isle, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at her home surrounded by family.
The family will conduct a memorial service 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapel by the Sea, with the Rev. Clay Olsen officiating.
Nita honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1977.
She graduated from East Carolina University in 1980 with a nursing degree, and worked for Pitt County Memorial Hospital for 19 years.
Nita served as a director of healthcare for Camp LeJeune and Cherry Point.
She also held a position as commissioner on the board for the town of Emerald Isle.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Hedreen of Emerald Isle; son, Ryan Hedreen and family of Charleston, S.C.; daughter, Susan Miller and family of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandsons, Hunter, Trenton and Oliver; two brothers, David Gardner and family of Goldsboro and Greg Gardner and family of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
