EDWARD C. MOORING

LAGRANGE -- Edward C. Mooring, 93, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014. Born March 26, 1921 in LaGrange, the WW II veteran was a loyal and beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle as well as an active citizen of his community.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Catherine Barnhill Mooring in 2012; brothers, Robert F. and Dr. Stewart Mooring; sister, Pearl Mooring Wooten; and parents, Robert J. and Annie Dail Mooring.
Ed is survived by his son, James E. Mooring and wife, Deane of LaGrange; daughter, B.J. Butler and husband, John, of Cornelius; grandchildren, Trent Mooring and wife, Caroline of Kinston, Megan Burton and husband, Ryan of Charlotte, Audrey Bell and husband, Clinton of Charlotte, and Scott Price and wife, Sharon of Seven Springs; great grandchildren, Eva and Britt Mooring of Kinston, Graham and Eleanor Catherine Burton of Charlotte and Davis Price of Seven Springs.
A graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1942, Ed was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and completed training in Navy supply and finance at the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He served in the Pacific and participated in five amphibious campaigns and two Philippine liberation operations. After the war he was discharged as a Lieutenant, senior grade.
A retired Certified Public Accountant, he owned his own practice in LaGrange for years before merging with Pittard Perry & Crone when he semi-retired. He continued to work part time until his early 90s. He served as the initial president of the Coastal Planes Chapter of the N.C. Association of Certified Public Accountants and was also on the board of directors of the N.C. Association of CPAs.
A lifelong member of LaGrange Christian Church, he served as elder and past chairman of the board. Ed also served 18 years on the Board of Trustees of Lenoir Memorial Hospital and on the LaGrange Advisory board of Wachovia Bank & Trust Co., 15 years as chairman. He was a member of the LaGrange Rotary Club, serving two separate terms as president.
His family is proud of his service to his church, community and country, and proudly honor the leadership and guidance he provided so many. They are appreciative to his most loyal caregivers in the last months of his life, Stacy Forrest, Lucy Sanderson, Joyce Smith, Jewel Sutton and the staff at Magnolia Cottage in Dover, N.C.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. from LaGrange Christian Church with the Rev. Gerald Stacy officiating. A family committal service will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
