Andrew Jonathan Sass, Private First Class, U.S. Army, 23, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 21, 2014 while training in a military exercise at Fort Irwin, California.
Andrew was born in Norfolk, Va. on Oct. 24, 1990 to Terry Allen Sass of Goldsboro and Dana Jean Risener Sass of Indiana. He was a 2009 graduate of Rosewood High School. Andrew was proud to be serving his country in the United States Army but most important to Andrew was his family. Andrew worked so hard to make sure his wife and son were well taken care of. He was the best daddy, who will be truly missed.
A service to celebrate Andrew's life will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Jonathan Smith and the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Katie Sass; son, Will Sass; parents, Terry and Symantha Sass of Rosewood and Dana Sass of Indiana; brother, David Sass of Fort Eustis, Va.; sister, Rebekah Sass of Rosewood; and grandparents, Louis and Doris Sass of Goldsboro, and Dan and Cathy Risener of Michigan. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ron and Hayley Burt of Pikeville.
The family will receive friends Monday following the service at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and other times at 102 William Drive, Goldsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to and made payable to the Will Sass Educational Fund, in care of Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
