Robert Bernard "Bob" Jones Sr., 96, longtime resident of Rones Chapel community near Mount Olive, passed from this life into the welcoming arms of his Lord and savior Tuesday evening, June 3, while at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, June 7, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Whatley and the Rev. Fred Crank officiating, to be followed by visitation, after which interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Friends and family are also welcome to call at 641 Garner's Chapel Road, Mount Olive (Mr. Bob's former home, and now the residence of his son and daughter-in-law).

Mr. Bob, known for his friendliness and his genuine love for sharing God's love to others, was a retired farmer.

He was a longtime member of Rones Chapel United Methodist Church.

The last few years of his life were lived at the Brian Center in Goldsboro, and during this time, he attended Victory Free Will Baptist Church.

Well known throughout the area, he was loyal in attending the Albertson Fox Hunt gatherings each year, where he enjoyed fellowship and the famous fish stew.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Jones Fuller and William S. Fuller of Norlina and Deborah Jones Jordan of Mount Olive; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Bernard Jones Jr. and Rosanne Jones of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Kimberly Fuller Burton and husband, Gregory, William S. Fuller Jr. and wife, Leisa, Mason Blair Jordan, Nikki Jones Wood and husband, Albert, and Taylor Robert Jones and wife, Heather; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Burton, William Thomas Burton, Aydin Fuller and Logan Jesse Wood; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessie Mae Smith Jones; his parents, Yancey and Margaret Butler Jones; his sisters, Rachel Jones Graham and Myra Lee Jones Lassiter; and his brothers, Manley B. Jones, Max E. Jones and Marshall Geddie Jones.
