LILLY F. DAVIS
March 10, 1930-Feb. 26, 2014
Lilly Faircloth Davis, 83, Fremont, died Wednesday afternoon at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born in Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Chadwick and Bessie Irene Turner Faircloth, and the wife of the late Arnold D. Davis.
She was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church, and had worked at Belk for 25 years.
Lilly or "MaMa" as she was fondly called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved her family very much. She enjoyed spending time with them whether it was at a ballfield, ballet recital, road trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., or just having them over to her house. There was nothing she cherished more than her family.
She also had a generous spirit. She was always cooking for someone, helping family and friends, donating items or giving to local organizations and charities.
She lived her life to its fullest, and laughed every chance she got. She was respected by all those who knew her, and she will be missed by all those who loved her.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara D. Matthews and husband, Stan, of Pikeville; three sisters, Ruby Merritt of Magnolia, Martha Carberry and her husband, Joe, of Clinton and Doris (Re) Smith and her husband, J.D., of Fayetteville; two brothers, Jack Faircloth and his wife, Betty, of Clinton and Buddy Faircloth of Whiteville; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Arnold Davis.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Calypso Cemetery, with pastor Barry Stallings officiating.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be sent to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Davis family, and online condolences may be sent to www.shumate-faulk.com.
