MOUNT OLIVE -- John Morris Rose, 43, lifelong resident of the Mount Olive area, passed away moments after midnight, Jan. 29, 2014, while at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate John's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1:30 p.m. in North Duplin Junior/Senior High School gymnasium in Calypso. Dr. Tyanna Yonkers will officiate.
Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service. At other times, friends and family may call at the residence, which John shared with his wife and son, at 183 John Rose Lane, Mount Olive (off Norwood Ezzell Road). Burial, which will be private, will be on the family farm.
John, a 1988 graduate of North Duplin High School, will be remembered for his unyielding determination, his "go-getter" attitude and the inspiration, which he was to so many.
A true giver, not a taker, he possessed a keen business sense, and had an entrepreneurial spirit. He endeavored in several business ventures, with his being co-founder of Rainman Irrigation Inc. as probably his most noted accomplishment.
John is survived by his wife, Sonya Flynn Rose; their son, Allen Morris Rose of the home and his significant other, Jennifer Culbreth of Mount Olive; his parents, the Rev. Paul and Betty Sue Rose of Mount Olive; a sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer R. and Ronald Barwick of Mount Olive; a niece, Emma Rose Barwick of Mount Olive; his paternal grandmother, Nell Brock Rose of Mount Olive; his parents-in-law, Edmund and Teresa Flynn of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Sheila Flynn of Wilmington; his wife's grandmother, Dorothy Blanton of Castle Hayne; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family members who have preceded John in death include his grandparents, Morris W. Rose and John and Ethel Williams Pridgen; his wife's grandfather, Allen Blanton; and several aunts and uncles.
Remembering the outpouring of community support given to John and the family following the untimely accident, which caused John's paralysis, it is with the spirit of "giving back" to the community that his family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Oak Ridge Community Building Fund, c/o Mrs. John Sullivan, 211 John Lewis Grady Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, and they, too, welcome flowers to honor John.
