ANN W. MAYO

MOUNT OLIVE -- Ann Marie Weldon Mayo, 84, Holloman Heights neighborhood, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 22, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of Vance County, the daughter of the late James Dewey Weldon and Lottie Josephine Smith Weldon and the widow of James Harold Mayo Sr.
She was a ham radio operator, and she and her husband were owners and operators of WDJS Radio in Mount Olive. A licensed certified public accountant, she was a member of Southern Wayne Business and Professional Women's organization, Mount Olive Lions Club ladies auxiliary and Mount Olive Extension and Community Association, and was a longtime student of the local arts and painting classes held in Mount Olive.
She had earned two master's degrees, and was a frequent diner at Southern Belle Restaurant.
She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Greg Southerland and wife, Rita, of Virginia and James H. "Jimmy" Mayo Jr. of the home; four daughters, Theresa Mae Daves and husband, Larry, of Ellenwood, Ga., Ann Marie Gregory and husband, Carroll "C" Gregory of Goldsboro, Nancy West and husband, David West, of Dudley and Joyce Beavers and husband, Thomas Beavers, of Seven Springs; a sister, Jean P. Weldon Ayscue of Henderson; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
She was also the mother of the late William Dewey Mayo.
The family extends a special thanks to Melinda Flores for her excellence in caring for Mrs. Mayo during her latter days of declining health.
Services to remember Mrs. Mayo will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with burial following in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the service, and at other times, at the home of Joyce and Tommy Beavers, 2169 Pineview Cemetery Road, Seven Springs.
