Edward Fields, 81, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Jerry Fields and Katie Newcomb Baker, and was the husband of Merlene Fields.
Mr. Fields was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean War, and was retired from Pate Dawson as a truck driver.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Fields will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ray Smeltzer officiating. The committal will follow the service at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Vickie and Larry Kelly.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Merlene Fields; four daughters, Vickie Kelly and husband, Larry, Wanda Haggard, Christine Marie Legg and Peggy Dickson all of Goldsboro; two sisters, Margaret Jennette of Fremont and Elizabeth Sutterfield of Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
An infant son; a sister, Beulah Fields; and a brother, Henry Fields; preceded him in death.
