MOUNT OLIVE -- Brenda Kay Newell MacKenzie, 67, Mount Olive, passed away Friday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She was the daughter of the late Cedric and Tiny H. Newell, and was the wife of the late Frederick MacKenzie.
She was a waitress for the Huddle House when it was located in the Days Inn, and at the 117 Truck Stop, a bartender for the City Lounge, as well as a truck driver, known as "Blue Darling."
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paula Griffin officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. MacKenzie is survived by a daughter, Angela Floyd and husband, Jeff, of Baltimore, Md.; a son, Steven Curtis and wife, Erin; and stepson, Donnie Dunn of Mount Olive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Harry Teetrick; brothers, Cedrick and Karl Newell; and a sister, Linda Sebourn.
