Winston DurhamGarris, 83, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Winston was born in Wayne County April 21, 1930, to the late Tobe U. Garris and Gertrude Wortham Garris. He was married to the late Ruby Lee Garris.
Winston was a retired building contractor.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Park, with Dr. Mallie Hinnant officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Winston is survived by his stepdaughter and caregiver, Bonnie Smith of Trenton; son, Robert Garris of Goldsboro; daughter, Debe Carrere of Goldsboro; stepson, Walter Smith of Virginia; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Hill of Fayetteville, and brother, Ralph Garris.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Gene Garris and George Garris.
