ROBERT A. THORNTON

Robert A. Thornton, 86, better known in the Corbett Hill and Grantham communities as "Pa," passed away early Wednesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, following a short battle with cancer.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Harvey and Betsy Grady Thornton, and husband of the late Iona Bell Thornton.
A service to celebrate his life will be held by the graveside Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Family members will greet friends one hour prior to the service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Mr. Thornton is survived by his stepsons, D.T. Grantham, Claro Grantham and David Grantham, and their families, and the families of Owen and Gerald Grantham, who preceded him in death.
He is also survived by his sister, Neta Pate.
The family would like to especially thank Dannie Faircloth for his love and devotion and to Kitty Askins Hospice Center for its caring and kindness.
