DONNIE S. KENNEDY

CALYPSO -- Donnie Marie Holland Sutton Kennedy, 94, longtime Calypso resident, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2013.
Born May 30, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Etta Herring Holland.
Due to an illness her mother encountered, from the age of two until adulthood, Donnie Marie was reared by her grandmother, Laura Herring, at the old homeplace, which was maintained by an aunt, Willie Herring, and uncles, Albert, Kirby and Printess Herring.
Along with her parents and those who raised her, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Owen Sutton (the father of their two daughters) and Truman Kennedy, and her siblings, Blanche H. King, Russell Holland, Louise H. Davis and Grey Holland.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Ann S. and Stoney Waters of Mount Olive and Gail S. and Sidney Sandlin of Beulaville; two grandchildren, Kirby Deanna S. Horne and husband, Trevor, of Richlands and Ethan Sandlin of Beulaville; two sisters-in-law, Lola Mae S. Davis of Calypso and Doris K. Holland of Mount Olive; many nieces and cousins; and numerous friends she leaves behind at the nursing center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Greg Day and the Rev. Paul Rose, and followed by burial in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times, the family will receive at the home of Stoney and Laura Ann Waters at 156 Pineland Ave., Mount Olive.

A retired bookkeeper, Mrs. Kennedy was a former member of Calypso United Methodist Church, now dissolved, and Faison United Methodist Church, and was very active and dedicated in both congregations.
In later years, she had obtained membership at Calypso Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended until she became a resident of Genesis Health Care Center in Mount Olive. Too, she was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
A kind and loving lady, she will be sorely missed.
