DR. RUFUS DWIGHT HARE

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Dr. Rufus Dwight Hare, 66, professor in the College of Education at Mississippi State University, passed away Oct. 21, 2013, at his residence in Starkville, Miss.
He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was a Tar Heel through and through. He received several teaching awards, and he made a huge difference in many students' lives.
Dr. Hare was also a member of numerous honor societies, and was a Marine veteran.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus J. Hare and Fannie Edmundson Hare.
He is survived by his wife, Jaynie Whitman Hare of Starkville, Miss.; sons, Daniel E. Hare and Nathan Hare both of Starkville, Miss., and Lee Carpenter (Caroline) of Monroe, La.; grandchildren, Witt and Thomas Carpenter of Monroe, La.; sister, Betty Parker of Wilson, N.C.; and niece, Mary Carla Hollis of Raleigh, N.C.
Visitation for Dr. Hare is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, Miss., with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Rufus Dwight Hare Scholarship Fund for College of Education, Mississippi State University Foundation, P.O. Box 6149, Mississippi State, Miss., 39762.
