HOWARD ALBERT BURNS

Howard Albert Burns, 87, formerly of Lynn, Mass., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 at Kitty Askins Hospice surrounded by his family.
Howard was born in Swampscott, Mass., on Oct. 25, 1925, to the late Howard and Alice Bryant Burns. He was preceded in death by his wives, Eleanor Gay Burns and Jean Walton Burns.
Howard proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from the City of Lynn in Mass. and later moved to Goldsboro to be near his family.
While living in Goldsboro, Howard was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Howard was a man of many talents but always enjoyed painting and gardening. Most important to Howard was his family.
A prayer service will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Father Pat Keane presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in Lynn, Mass. The family will greet friends Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, following the prayer service until 6 p.m. and other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Richard Marino, 232 Ryan Way, Goldsboro.
Howard is survived by his daughters, Evelyn Marino and husband Richard and Dorothy Burns, all of Goldsboro; son, Leon A. Burns and wife Pattie of Pikeville; stepchildren, Anita Perry and husband Joseph of Braintree, Mass., Donald Mabee and George Mabee of Saugus, Mass., and Frank Mabee and wife Cheryl of Lynn, Mass.; six grandchildren, Tracy Marino Simmons and husband Kevin of Goldsboro, Matthew Marino and wife Melissa of Goldsboro, Amy David and husband Peter of Lynn, Mass., Bethany Savela of Quincy, Mass., Ben Savela of Florida and Kaylee Mabee of Saugus, Mass.; 14 great-grandchildren; and his beloved K-9 friend, Kelly.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Burns.
