JAMES E. "SMITTY" SMITH

James Edward "Smitty" Smith, 72, died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Leo and Hattie Bell Sauls Smith.
He formerly attended The Highest Praise Tabernacle Church.
James was an avid go-cart enthusiast, having been active in all aspects of the sport from the local to the state level.
A service to celebrate Mr. Smith's life will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel, with pastor Dudley Smith officiating.
Family members will remain to greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of his daughter, Kathy Smith, 107 N. Martin Road, Goldsboro.
A graveside service will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Diane Smith; his children, Kenny Smith and wife, Beth, of Fremont, Kathy Smith and fiancé, Scotty Hales, of Goldsboro and Bobby Smith and wife, May May, of Goldsboro; a sister, Linda S. Bartlett and husband, Josh, of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Julie Hatchett, Tabitha Smith Colgan, Kasi Smith, Kayla Smith Lassiter, Kathryn Smith, Allan Smith and Nicholas Best; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb Colgan and Carson Wolfe.
