WILSON -- Elton Strickland, 77, Wilson, passed peacefully away Sunday evening.
Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner's Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Johnny Sullivan and the Rev. Frank Cockrell will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening immediately following the service at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, and other times at 613 Poe St., Wilson.
Elton was a loving husband, daddy, papa, brother, uncle and a friend to all who knew him.
He served his country faithfully and honorably with the United States Army.
Elton is survived by his daughter, Darlene Langley and husband, David, of Wilson; his sons, Larry Strickland and wife, Lorienda, of Goldsboro and Gary Strickland and wife, Amanda, of Wilson; his grandchildren, Brandon Langley, Ariel and Savannah Strickland, Rachel Langley and Maverick Strickland; his sister, Barbara Hicks of Goldsboro; and his sister-in-law, Billie Ferrell of Morehead City.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Winnie Strickland, and his parents, Larry and Blanche Strickland.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to WilMed Hospice and Ms. Margaret Simon, who, no matter how difficult things were, she always treated him with respect and dignity.
