GREENSBORO -- Shirley Cook Best, 77, formerly of Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Hospice Home of High Point.
Shirley was born in Salem Depot, N.H., Nov. 12, 1935, to the late Ernest L. and Margaret Porch Cook. She was married to the late Donald Jackson Best.
Early in her life, she wrote a column for the Goldsboro News-Argus called "Bittersweet."
After retiring from the state of North Carolina, Shirley volunteered for the Red Cross, alongside her husband.
She was also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Donald L. Best and wife, Angel, of Greensboro and Kevin Best and wife, Jill, of Raleigh; and her grandchildren, Cory Best of Wilmington, Aimee Best and Caitlyn Best of Orlando, Fla., and Ryenn Best of New Bern.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Home at High Point, 1803 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C., 27262, or the American Red Cross.
