Howard Blackmon Howell, 86, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
He was born in Wayne County to the late Willie M. and Rosa Tadlock Howell.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with pastor Jim Skinner and the Rev. Richard Parson officiating. Burial will follow in Howell Family Cemetery near the home.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
He was retired from Hamilton Beach in Clinton.
Howard, known as "Pa" to all of his family, was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
The oldest member of Westbrook Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, he had served as the church secretary, treasurer and superintendent.
He is survived by a son, Buddy Howell; three daughters, Ann H. Denning, Janice H. Edwards and husband, Doodle, and Vickey H. Sanderson and husband, Kenneth; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a very special pet, his dog Lassie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mildred Denning Howell; a son-in-law, Donald Denning; a great-grandson, William Landon Vann; two brothers, Martin Howell and Roger Howell; and two sisters, Mamie H. Davis and Myrtie H. Mozingo.
