DICK SWINSON

Richard Sanford "Dick" Swinson Jr., 80, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Dick was born in Hampton, Va., Sept. 18, 1932, to the late Richard Sanford Swinson Sr. and Bonnie Young Swinson.
He retired from the United States Marine Corps.
Dick was an active member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.
He lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community. He served his community many ways from working for the booster club at Rosewood High School to his work with Fork Fire Department.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
Dick is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jane Whitley Swinson; daughter, Nellie Gray Browder and husband, Donnie, of Atlantic Beach; sons, Ricky Swinson and wife, Sandy, of Princeton, Bill Swinson and wife, Andrea, of Gibsonville and Edmund Swinson and wife, Karel, of Greenville; three granddaughters, Whitley Browder, Katey Swinson and Olivia Swinson; and brothers, Owen Swinson of Indiana, Coral Swinson of Portsmouth, Va., George Swinson of Smithfield, Va., and William Swinson of Colorado.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 S. N.C. 581, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
