ILA MAE O. DAVIS

Dec. 8, 1918-Feb. 6, 2013

MOUNT OLIVE -- One of Mount Olive's most beloved citizens has passed away. Mrs. Ila Mae Outlaw Davis, 94, a longtime resident of North Church Street in Mount Olive, went to be with her Lord and savior Wednesday morning, Feb. 6. Death visited her at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, where she had been cared for and loved for the last 19 months.

Services to celebrate and remember her long, fruitful and Christian life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the chapel at Tyndall Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Mickey Whitfield and the Rev. Paul Rose.

Visitation will immediately follow the service.

Committal and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.

Friends and family are also being received at the home of Johnny and Brenda Davis, 101 Ramblewood Drive, Mount Olive.

Mrs. Davis, a native of Summerlin's Crossroads in Duplin County, had been a Mount Olive resident for the past 58 years.

A lifelong member of Rooty Branch Original Free Will Baptist Church in which she faithfully served and supported, she was well known for her friendliness and genteel spirit.

She was a member of the local chapter of AARP and the local "Birthday Club," and was frequent to attend the weekly Spiritual Life prayer and devotional meetings at First United Methodist Church.

Perhaps one of her best known attributes would be her long association with Tyndall Funeral Home over 45 years as secretary, hostess and partner.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Brenda Pittard Davis of Mount Olive and Jackie and Wanda Holmes Davis of White Lake; a brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Ruth H. Outlaw of Kenansville; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis, Kristyn D. Reish and husband, Scott, Beth D. Culbreth and husband, Buck, Kimberly D. Wade and husband, Matt, all of Mount Olive, Chris Davis of Virginia, Brooks Davis and wife, Misty, of Alaska and Kasey Davis of White Lake; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; many friends, both young and old; and her "boys" at the funeral home and their families.

Family members who have preceded Mrs. Mae in death include her beloved husband, J. Thurman Davis; her parents, Arthur and Martha Harrell Outlaw; her brothers, Roy Outlaw and Henry Outlaw; and sisters, Esteen O. Quinn, Pauline O. Goodman and Catherine O. Goodson, and their spouses.

In lieu of flowers, it is the request of the family that memorial gifts be made to Rooty Branch Church, 205 Beautancus Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365; Ila Mae O. Davis Endowment Scholarship Fund, Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive, N.C., 28365; or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
