MOUNT OLIVE -- Katherine Michelle Kornegay Garrison, 42, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 13, 2013, while a patient at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A native of the Beautancus community, Michelle had been a resident of Genesis Healthcare of Mount Olive in recent years.
She is survived by her mother, Katherine Holmes Kornegay Craft of White Lake; her brother, Terry Kornegay, his wife, Kylie, and their sons, Evan Charles Kornegay and Tanner Austin Kornegay all of Faison; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bryant Garrison; her father, Charles Kornegay; her brother, Scottie Kornegay; and her stepfather, Kenneth Craft.
A service of remembrance for Michelle will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Tyndall Funeral Home, followed by visitation. The Rev. Paul Rose will be officiating. A private interment will be in Pate Cemetery.
Family and friends are being received at the Terry Kornegay residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, National Headquarters, 3300 E. Sunrise Drive, Tuscon, Ariz., 85718, in hopes of helping others who are fighting the disease that Michelle battled so long.
