DOROTHY MAE BATTLE

Dorothy Mae Battle, 3541 Thoroughfare Road, went home to be with her Lord Oct. 20, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1928, in Kenansville to Robert and Isabelle Dowd.
She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Walter Battle; a sister, Elizabeth Jones; a son, Eugene Brewington; two daughters, Pearlie Woodard and Dorothy Lois Lane; and four stepchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory five sons, Dock (Loretta) Brewington of Raleigh, Chester Brewington, Anthony Brewington and William (Rosalyn) Moore all of Goldsboro and Willie (April) Brewington of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Gwendolyn (James) Spruill and Angela Armstrong both of Goldsboro and Betty (Johnny) Mervin of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy Battle was a member of the mother board for many years at Gospel Light Temple Apostolic Church, where bishop Carlton Jackson is pastor.
A spiritual wake will be held at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home Friday from 3 to 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Branch Memorial Tabernacle, 500 Gulley St. Interment will be held immediately following the services in the sanctuary at Old Mill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial monetary gifts to E.M. Matthews Funeral Home would greatly be appreciated.
