Mrs. Rosa Burden Kornegay, 102, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Aunt Rat," 1207 N. James St., Goldsboro, departed her earthly life Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Rosa was born in Wayne County May 5, 1910, to the late Mr. William Burden and the late Mrs. Minnie Braswell Burden.
She received her education in the public schools of Wayne County.
Rosa was a member of Saint Joseph Free Will Baptist Church.
She was an anointed singer, and also a member of the Hamilton Funeral Home Hamilton's Family Hour Choir.
Rosa was employed with J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co., and served as a supervisor prior to her retirement. Also, she was a skilled seamstress.
Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Free Will Baptist Church, 280 Claridge Nursery Road, Goldsboro, with pastor Leslie C. Capers officiating.
Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery North, 1191 Old Grantham Road, Goldsboro.
Also, a public viewing will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, from 2 to 6 p.m. The family will be present from 5 to 6 p.m. to receive friends and other family members.
Rosa leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories a sister, Helen B. Simmons; a sister-in-law, Marie S. Burden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will assemble at the residence of Ms. Pam Adams, 1205 N. James St., Goldsboro, one hour prior to the funeral at 11:55 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
