FRANKLINTON -- Ray Edward Harris Sr., 82, died Monday, June 11, 2012, in Louisburg Nursing Center.
He was a native of Emporia, Va., and was the son of the late Roger C. and Mary Clay Harris.
Mr. Harris worked in road construction.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a member of American Legion Post 52 in Franklinton, a member of Franklinton Lions Club, former Lion of the Year and past president of the club.
While living in Virginia, he worked with the Boy Scouts and coached baseball in the Chesapeake area.
Ray was also a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. in Hall Wynne Funeral Chapel in Franklinton, by the Rev. Carl Hunter. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Kearney Harris; daughter, Terry Harris Beachem (John) of Goldsboro; son, Ray Edward Harris Jr. (Stephanie) of Drewryville, Va.; sister, Mary Cooley Murray of Wilson; grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler and Megan Beachem and Kaylee and Carawan Harris.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Charlie, Gloria and Twanda.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hall Wynne Funeral Home in Franklinton. At other times they will be at the home.

The family is under the care of Hall Wynne Funeral Home in Franklinton.
