MOUNT OLIVE -- Diana Greene Whitfield Oliver Porter, 95, passed away just minutes into the new day of Monday, May 28, 2012.
Funeral services will be held by the graveside Thursday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive, officiated by the Rev. Steven Wicks.
The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to the Salvation Army, 610 N. William St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C., 28607.
Mrs. Porter was a member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for more than 30 years.
She was also a member of the Twentieth Century Club, the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was an avid bird watcher, and she enjoyed reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Muscoe S. "Bill" Porter Jr.; her parents, Council W. Oliver Sr. and Diana Whitfield Oliver; a brother, C.W. Oliver Jr.; and a sister, Mary Adams Oliver Sayers.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Porter Rice of Raleigh; two sons, Richard Porter and wife, Kay, of Sneads Ferry and M. Stotler Porter III of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Logan Porter of Mount Olive, Richard Porter Jr. and Trisha Kelley of Crozet, Va.; two great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Rebecca Oliver of Mount Olive.
