EVELYN BUTLER KENNEDY

Evelyn Butler Kennedy, 89, formerly of Goldsboro, passed away Saturday April 28, 2012 at the Brian Center in Durham following a period of declining health.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro, with interment at Wayne Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be held at 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Mrs. Kennedy was born in Sampson County, and was the daughter of the late John Herbert Butler and Viola Alderman Butler.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Ray Kennedy, in 1974, and by a sister, Estelle Butler Underwood, in 1999.
She was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church and the Homemakers Sunday school class.
Mrs. Kennedy is survived by sons, David Kennedy and wife, Jeanne, of Greenville and Michael Kennedy and wife, Beverly, of Burlington; daughter, Dr. Jerre Kennedy of Chapel Hill and fiancé, Jim Joyce; grandchildren, Matt Kennedy and wife, Ashley, great-granddaughter, Ava of Bethel, Meredith Kennedy of Wilmington, Phillip Kennedy and wife, Blair, and great-granddaughter, Parker of Raleigh, Megan Kennedy of Greensboro and Casey and Emily Molina of Chapel Hill; stepgrandson, Todd Dillenbeck; stepgreat-grandchildren, Colby and Cassey of Coppell, Texas; and two brothers, John L. Butler of Newport News, Va., and James Roland Butler of Clinton.
