Mr. Delmas Lee Braswell, 65, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Grit," was born in Wayne County, Sept. 15, 1946, to the late Matthew and Catherine Dudley Braswell of 804 Weaver Drive, Goldsboro, and departed his earthly life peacefully Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
"Grit" was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was married to Betty Reid Braswell for 40 years.
A service celebrating Mr. Braswell's life will be held, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ, 700 W. Ash St., Goldsboro. Elder Patrick McCoy will officiate. He will be interred at Elmwood Cemetery on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro.
"Grit" is survived by his loving wife, Betty Reid Braswell; three daughters, Angela Braswell, Devona (Ricky) Reid, and Laterri (Anthony) Hall; four sons, Delmas Braswell Jr., Victor Braswell, Torrence Johnson and Arkeem Johnson; three sisters, Carolyn (Coy) Coley, Evelyn (Larry) Lofton and Ada (Herbert) Suggs; four brothers, Clifton (Debbie) Braswell, Timothy Braswell, Samuel (Terri) Braswell and Douglas (Sharon) Braswell.
Services are being entrusted to Hamilton Funeral Chapel.
