HAMPTON, Va. -- George Edgar Pate, 61, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Wayne County, and had been a Hampton Roads resident for 18 years.
George retired from the United States Air Force after 27 years of service, and in his spare time enjoyed fishing and RVing.
Survivors include his wife, Chuleeporn "Ad" Pate; two children, Jaruchan "Jip" Palakawongs and Amanda Pate; a sister, Mary K. Von Hagel; and a brother, Daniel L. Pate Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Esther Pate, and sisters, Edna O'Grady, Latha Smith and Ann Graham.
Visitation was held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at W. J. Smith and Son Funeral Home, Newport News, Va.
A funeral service followed at 2:30 p.m. with his brother, pastor Daniel L. Pate Jr. officiating. Burial was in Hampton Memorial Gardens in Hampton, Va., with full military honors.
