MALCOLM Z. GURLEY

Malcolm Z. Gurley, 80, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Gurley was born in Wayne County on Sept. 22, 1930 to the late Edgar Gurley Sr. and Mabel Wade Gurley. He was a graduate of Pikeville High School. He was a retired general contractor and for many years served as the carpentry instructor at Eastern Wayne High School. He also had a great love for farming. Mr. Gurley was a member of Woods Grove PFWB Church where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon for many years. He always took a great interest in baseball and fishing.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Gurley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Julia P. Gurley; his sons, Mike Gurley and wife, Pam of Goldsboro, Steve Gurley and wife, Patricia of Goldsboro; his daughter, Dawn Smith and husband, Roger of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Jessi Carter and husband, Bruce of Goldsboro, Casey Smith, Rex Smith, Michael Smith and wife, Susan, Brock Smith; his seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Lucas, Autumn Lancaster, Kennedy, Saylor and Eli Carter, Ben Smith and Charlie Smith; and his brothers, Edgar Gurley Jr. and wife, Melba of Goldsboro and J.P. Gurley of Goldsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Letha Anderson and Katherine Ingram and his granddaughter, Heather Lancaster.

The family will receive friends Friday after the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
