NEWPORT -- James "Sam" A. Hippo, 48, Newport, died May 20, 2011, at the residence of his sister in Pikeville.
Mr. Hippo was born Dec. 18, 1962, in Altoona, Pa. to Robert L. and Martha Yohn Hippo.
He graduated from Altoona Area High School, class of 1981.
He worked as a carpenter in the construction industry for 30 years.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2011, at St. James United Methodist Church chapel, with the Rev. Nelson R. Rollins officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Roselee Marie Fodrie Hippo of Newport, N.C., daughters, Jessica Lawton and husband, Daniel, of Dothan, Ala., and Lacey Fields of Westfield, N.Y.; son, Shawn Fields of Westfield, N.Y.; mother, Martha Yohn Hippo of Altoona, Pa.; sisters Cathy Aukerman and husband, Larry, of Centre Hall, Pa., Janet Eickenberger and husband, Robert, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Abby Rollins and husband, Nelson, of Pikeville, N.C.; brothers, Pat Hippo of State College, Pa., and Michael Hippo and wife, Jennifer, of Altoona, Pa.; and grandchildren, Ruth, Sarah and Beniah Lawton.
His father, Robert L. Hippo; his brother, Robert McCauley; and his sister, Juanita Nagoette, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
