PIKEVILLE -- Joseph Doyle Perkins, 86, of 125 Circle Drive, died peacefully Friday morning.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Saulston United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carolyn Sims and the Rev. Rick Ward officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at the home.
Born in Rockingham County, he was the son of the late William Edward and Elizabeth Saunders Perkins, and the husband of the late Lola Bailey Perkins. He was a devoted member of Saulston United Methodist Church. In addition to being a loving father and dedicated friend, Mr. Perkins was also a watchmaker, jeweler, and teacher with Wayne Community College. He opened Perkins House of Time, where he worked with his son. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea with the United States Navy. He also was a member of Goldsboro Lodge No. 634, a Scottish Rite Mason in the valley of Wilmington, a Gideon, a member of the Saulston Volunteer Fire Dept., and the Wayne County Wildlife Pond.
He is survived by his son, Marvin Perkins and wife, Emily, of Pikeville; his daughter, Adris P. Anderson of Pikeville; a brother, Robin Perkins of Washington; two sisters, Elizabeth P. Talley of Washington and Alice "Teeny" Dickson of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Joseph Perkins, and wife, Brandi, Michael Perkins and wife, Lizabeth, Damie Perkins, Robin Panowicz and husband, David, Max Smith and Madeline Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Joseph Doyle Perkins, Alexis Perkins, Adrian Perkins, Aiden Perkins, Kaylon Perkins, Hailey Panowicz, Lana Perkins and was looking forward to the newest Baby Perkins, which is on the way.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Gideons International, Goldsboro South Camp, P.O. Box 509, Goldsboro, NC 27533, or to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
