Jesse James Padgett, 81, of 586 Sheridan Forest Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be today, Feb. 6, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Pink Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
Mr. Padgett retired in July of 1981 as chief master sergeant from the United States Air Force after 30 years of loyal service.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Ray Padgett.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Howard Padgett; daughter, Melinda "Lindy" P. Maples and husband, Dennis, of Gloucester, Va.; sons, James Forrest Padgett of Baltimore Md., Barton Howard Padgett of Goldsboro and Timothy Louis Padgett of Gloucester Va.; sister, Ruth Holmes of Kenansville; brother, Melvin Padgett of Kinston; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 1:30 until 3 p.m. at Pink Hill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
