DR. JESSE H. GARRETT

Elder Dr. Jesse H. Garrett, 402 W. New Hope Road, Goldsboro, was born Jan. 2, 1933, in Albany, N.Y., to the late Malinda Hunt and Jesse R. Garrett. He peacefully entered into eternal rest Jan. 26. 2011, at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
He was educated in the public schools in the city of Albany, N.Y. Jesse furthered his education at Albany Bible Institute, Moody Bible Institute, New York University, Manhattan Bible College, O.M. Kelly Bible Institute and United Christian College. He continued in his quest to have a broad career portfolio, and became a baccalaureate graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta, Ga.
Jesse enlisted into the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, where he later received special honor and recognition for his service.
He was an avid political activist, marching on Washington with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and campaigning for equal distribution of day care services for preschoolers in New York, just to name a few.
Pastor Garrett served in many ministerial capacities, such as chairman of the elder's council, district superintendent and president of the evangelism board of the Churches of God in Christ.
He served as an active member pastor of Bear Creek Association auxiliaries, as instructor/teacher to the Western BCMBA Union Ministers and Pastor Class, as well as serving on the BCMBA ordination board.
Pastor Garrett served as founder and pastor of many churches, such as founder and pastor of Cathedral of Love Church of God in Christ, pastor of St. Andrews Christian Church in Dudley and Kinston, N.C., pastor of Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Kinston and current pastor of Holly Green Missionary Baptist Church in Dudley.
Survivors for elder Jesse H. Garrett are his wife, Bajei; children, Sandra, Denise, Daryl, Andre, Carl, Dawne Ane and Stephanei Bajei; siblings, Jacqueline, Wanda, Timothy and Thomas; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bear Creek Headquarters building, with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
Services celebrating the prolific life and legacy of this great man of God will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. also at Bear Creek Headquarters building.
Following the triumphant celebration in the sanctuary, elder Garrett, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Elmwood Cemetery for internment rites.
What a time of rejoicing it has been, since the day pastor Garrett left this world behind and entered into that beautiful city called Heaven, where the pastor of ALL pastors, leader of ALL leaders, king of ALL kings and most of all Lord of ALL lords handed elder Jesse H. Garrett his crown of righteousness and his pure white robe, and said unto him "Sit down servant, sit down and rest a little while."
