BISHOP JOHN A. STEWART

Bishop John A. Stewart of 511 Stadium Drive, Goldsboro, entered into eternal rest on Friday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
A service of remembrance will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Original Tabernacle of Prayer For All People. Interment will be held on Tuesday at noon at Pilot Mountain Church Cemetery in Concord, Va. There, Bishop Stewart's earthly temple will rest until the great reunion when all the saints will gather and praise the Master all day long.
He was born April 16, 1921, to the late John O. Stewart and Ida Lee Stewart in Concord, Va.
During his life, he worked in the coal mines before entering the Army Air Corps, which became U.S. Air Force, and retired after 20 years of service. He married Rosa Lee Lang of Sumter, S.C., and raised 12 children. Bishop Stewart began preaching in 1954 after being saved in an Oral Roberts crusade. He spent many years pastoring and was a bishop for the southwest region of Free and Independent Holiness Church. He preached throughout Goldsboro on many different streets.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories two sons, George Stewart of Raleigh, and Reuben Stewart, who lived with him; several daughters, Janice Pridgen of Memphis, Tenn., Jewel Fortune (Harold) of Goldsboro, Ricky Ann Stull (Robert) of San Antonio, Texas, Doris Stewart of Las Vegas, Nev., Yvonne Bell of Goldsboro, Lillie Harris (Aaron) of Columbia, S.C., Christine Simmons (David) of Goldsboro, and Maggie Lucas (Roy) of Wake Forest; 30 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bishop Earnest Stewart (Delores) of Beckley, W.Va., and Curtis Stewart of Dudley; three sisters-in-law, Veleria Stewart of New York, Gorgeous Stewart of Beckley, W.Va., and Evangelist Betty Stewart of Beckley, W.Va; longtime family friends, Sister Marie Chadwick, Sister Annie Mae Wiley and Mother Edna Wiley. He had a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
