ROBERT GILLESPIE
Robert "Gus" L. Gillespie, 48, retired Master Sergeant, of Wood Place, Goldsboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Gillespie was born on Coronado Island, Ca. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1984. He served over 21 years with duty assignments at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri; Lajes Air Force Base in the Azores; and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. While on duty he contracted Aggressive Systemic Mastocytosis, a rare genetic mutation.
He is survived by his mother, "Petie" Jean Lutz of Alhambra, Ill., father, Robert "Bob" (Karen) Gillespie of Port Isabel, Texas, two daughters, Roxanne Gillespie and Jessica (Justin) Jorgenson, both of Highland, IL, three grandchildren, Gavin Gillespie, Alexis Jorgensen and Marley Lawson, all of Highland, IL, brother, Shawn Gillespie of Alhambra, IL, sister, Kelly (Gary) Bolen of Burkburnett, Texas, two stepsisters,Stephanie (Mike) Huber of Brighton, IL and Amy Jones of Wood River, Ill., niece Brittney Gillespie, and three nephews, Brodie Bolen, Sean "Alex" GIllespie and Brock Bolen.
Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, Pastor Rev. Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Alhambra, Ill.
