FREMONT -- Deacon Benjamin "Ben" Franklin Applewhite, 77, 307 Sycamore St., Fremont, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
A celebration of the life of Deacon Applewhite will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Hooks Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pikeville, N.C., at 2 p.m., with pastor Harold Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Hooks Grove Church Cemetery.
A viewing will be held Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, N.C., with the family receiving friends there from 6 to 7 p.m.
Deacon Applewhite is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Louetta Jones Applewhite of the home; six daughters, Shirley (Eddie) Honey of Wilson, N.C., Sandra (Barry) Ingram of Pikeville, N.C., Wanda Raiford of Fremont, N.C., Portia Elrefaey of Fremont, N.C., Monica Applewhite of Fremont, N.C., and Topeka (Lionel) Graham of Grantham, N.C.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; a brother, Willie (Oprie) Applewhite of Fayetteville, N.C.; five nephews; a niece; two special friends, Willie Shirley and Roland Chadwick; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will meet at the residence Thursday at 1 p.m. in preparation for the processional to the church.
