DOUGLAS A. DANIELS

Douglas Alex Daniels was born Dec. 10, 1949, in Wayne County, N.C., to the late Inez S. Bowden and Alex Daniels. The angels descended down to the room of Alex Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, and whispered "my child your departure is at hand so take my hand and follow me" after a short battle of pancreatic cancer.
Alex, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the Wayne County Public School System. Douglas combined his education at Wayne Community College in the area of engineering. Determined to enhance his career goals, he furthered his studies at Old Dominion University of Norfolk, Va., and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C.
He accepted Christ as his Lord and savior, and joined Wake Chapel Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C. Subsequently, he matriculated to Poplar Springs Christian Church in Raleigh, N.C., and actively served in many roles.
Alex sincerely loved his finance, Linda Chavis, with all his heart and relied so much on her judgment in all areas and aspects of his life until the end. His vivacious personality was very present as he never met a stranger. He especially loved making and engaging new friends and traveling abroad, especially the Caribbean with Linda.
He was a family man, and believed in being available whenever needed. Many lives were touched by Doug, and he will be truly missed.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Daniels and Inez Bowden; a sister, Elizabeth "Happy" Williams of Walstonburg, N.C., and a brother, LaPearce Bowden of Raleigh, N.C.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his fiancé, Ms. Linda Chavis of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Vanessa McKennon of Wilmington; a sister, Deborah E. Bowden of Raleigh, N.C.; and five brothers, Thaddeus L. Daniels of Durham, N.C., William A. Johnson of Goldsboro, N.C., and Richard J. Bowden, Michael A. Bowden and Leonard G. Bowden all of Raleigh, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A time to visit with Mr. Daniels and his family will be Friday at St. Mark Church from 12 noon to 1 p.m. A service of remembrance will begin promptly at 1 p.m. After which, Mr. Daniels, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Old Mill Cemetery for interment rites. It is in this earthly consign that Douglas will remain until that great reunion, where all of God's children will gather together and rest from their labors.
