LANIE COLLINS KENNEDY

Lanie Collins Kennedy, 84, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

Lanie was born in Wayne County Oct. 2, 1925, to the late Barney Collins and Zettie Parnell Collins.

She was a kind and loving person. Lanie had a smile for everyone.

She enjoyed reading, listening to country music and working in her yard.

Lanie attended Wayne County Schools, and graduated from Rosewood High School in 1942.

She was married to the late Silas Croom Kennedy.

Lanie retired from Textilease Corp., now known as Unifirst Corporation, after 33 years of employment.

She was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Turner and the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Lanie is survived by her son, Bobby Gene Kennedy of Dudley; her daughter, Connie Kennedy of Goldsboro; her grandson, Chris Kennedy and wife, Katie, of Knightdale; and her great-grandchildren, Emma Kennedy and Silas Kennedy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and her special friends, Christine Mitchell and Frankie Collins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Donna Davis Kennedy; her sisters, Esther Pipkin, Effie Bass, Hattie Pierce, Sophie Johnson and Bessie Cobb; and her brothers, Willie Collins, William Collins, Carncey Collins and Barney Collins.

The family would like to express their thanks to the seventh-floor staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital for its kindness and support.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834; Alzheimer's North Carolina Inc., P.O. Box 10608, Goldsboro, N.C., 27532, or charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence, 1017 12th St., Goldsboro.
