MOUNT OLIVE -- Thomas "Tom" William Gruebel, 60, a self-employed plumber and a veteran of the United States Air Force, died Tuesday evening at home.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Rose officiating.

The family received friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the home, 418 Beautancus Road in Mount Olive, at other times.

Tom, son of the late Francis A. and Matilda Naeder Gruebel, was a native of Queens, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Holmes Gruebel of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Tad and Laura Gruebel of Raleigh; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Shayne Williams of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Rachel, Christian and Lillian Gruebel and Kevin and Ashley Williams; a brother, Frank Gruebel of New York; five sisters, Barbara Wolf of New Jersey and Marie Gruebel, Cathy Heed, Rita Graney and Pat Morris all of New York; nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Clara Belle Holmes of Mount Olive; and the extended Holmes family.
